The Printing Table

About Dana

I live in South Gippsland, Victoria, my studio is a room off a tin shed, with an outlook of green grass, cows and Wilsons Prom. I love it and this is where I get to play.

Monoprinting is a journey that invites the artist to explore the vibrant world of colors and textures. It encourages a spirit of experimentation, where each creation unfolds in unexpected and often delightful ways. What begins as a sharp, defined image can transform into a tapestry of colors and shapes, making every print a unique piece of art.

Lately, I’ve been diving into creating cards and bags, and the experience has brought an overwhelming sense of FUN! As someone who isn’t formally trained in art, I relish the opportunity to play and express myself freely. My work is a reflection of this joyful exploration.

The tools I use are simple yet effective: a gel plate, acrylic paints, printing rollers and an assortment of shapes crafted from whatever materials I can get my hands on—be it recycled tetra packs, overhead projector sheets or plain old paper. Each item I use adds an element of surprise and creativity to my prints.

I owe my introduction to this medium to Amanda Gunn, whose art classes opened my eyes to the possibilities of expression. She inspired me to seek out a medium that resonated with me. After experimenting with watercolors and other techniques—often feeling a bit frustrated—I finally found my artistic home in monoprinting. For now, I’ve discovered my place in this world, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next!
